Are you interested in the market viability of your research?

The Penn State SBDC works with many Penn State faculty and researchers interested in exploring the market potential of their research and/or technology. If you think that your research or technology may have commercial viability, contact the SBDC and discuss your options for assistance.

There are multiple entrepreneurship options available to researchers and inventors, including full-time business ownership, technology license agreements and licensing, and consulting, just to name a few.  The Penn State SBDC provides free and confidential business consulting and can help you assess the potential market applications of your product or service and then assist you through the commercialization process.

Research Commercialization & Business Development Services Include:

  • The Research to Start-up seminar, which includes a 90-minute overview of the business, technology, and intellectual property considerations to consider
  • Free one-on-one consulting with a business consultant with specialized training in technology commercialization
  • Additional seminar series focused on topics such as government contracting, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant opportunities, export trade development, marketing, and accounting
  • Access to the SBDC’s full suite of services, including assistance with business financing and business planning
  • Facilitated access to other economic development partners and opportunities
