Military service members and veterans have the character, discipline, and skills needed to succeed as small-business owners and entrepreneurs. Wondering how you can best prepare to be a success?

This training, divided into two half-day sessions is open to veterans, active duty service members including the National Guard and Reservists, and their spouses/partners. Whether you are considering starting a business, already in the process, or looking for new resources to strengthen an existing company, you will benefit from the training.

You will receive a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the second session.

Day One: The Nuts and Bolts of Entrepreneurship – October 12, 2016

  • introduction to entrepreneurship and business
  • getting into business – business type
  • idea foundation – no idea, new idea, franchise and purchase
  • business plan 101 – write your business plan
  • market landscape – competition and customers
  • economics and accounting 101 – models and numbers

Day Two: Hands-on Practical – November 9, 2016

  • business team – who is the BAIL Team?
  • business plan 202 – reviewing and improving what you’ve written
  • financing the start-up – saving, debt, and equity
  • resources and veteran services
  • panel discussion – I wish I had known…

What’s Next?

After this training, you can receive no cost, one-on-one confidential consulting with a Penn State SBDC business consultant.

All training will be presented by professors and practitioners from Penn State World Campus, the Penn State Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Small Business Administration (SBA), and informed by veterans’ experiences and needs.
