Good Neighbor Craft House originally opened in Hyner, Pennsylvania, where Kate and Vinnie Kishbaugh created a destination known for quality food, Pennsylvania craft beverages, and a welcoming atmosphere. As the business grew, the owners recognized the need to own their own building and relocate closer to their core customer base. With long-term sustainability and growth in mind, relocation became the logical next step in the business’s evolution.
Vinnie brings more than 30 years of culinary experience, including executive chef roles at Ironworks Pub in Danville and Clinton Country Club in Mill Hall, along with catering and teaching experience. Kate complements this with a background in organizational management and customer service gained through 10 years in higher education, while managing front-of-house operations and supporting kitchen and catering operations.
Relocation presented several challenges. After identifying the ideal property, securing the necessary municipal and county approvals took longer than anticipated. The prolonged approval process placed the project at risk when the seller threatened to withdraw from the deal. Despite these obstacles, Kate and Vinnie remained committed to the location and moved forward with plans to purchase their own building.
As returning clients, Kate and Vinnie worked with Tom Keiffer of the Penn State Small Business Development Center to guide the relocation and expansion. The SBDC assisted with developing a business plan, preparing financial projections, and evaluating loan options. Additional support was provided by SEDA-COG, the Clinton County Economic Partnership, and Woodlands Bank. As a result, the business secured a bank loan, a Clinton County Revolving Loan, and a line of credit.
Looking ahead to reopening in early 2026, Good Neighbor Craft House continues to serve as a welcoming gathering place where community members can connect. Reflecting on their experience, the owners shared, “We have utilized the SBDC on three separate occasions as they supported our dream of opening a catering business, then a small business in a rented building, and finally to our very own space that we just purchased last month. We absolutely could not have accomplished this growth without our local SBDC and we are forever grateful for their guidance.”
